Home Security Alarms

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

People are talked into home security alarms all the time. They are told that they’ll be safer and more protected. Sometimes this is true and other times it is just making profits on vulnerable people. In this fear-based society that we live in, it is easy to sell home security alarms.

Most home security alarms come with signs to put in your yard. These are supposed to scare away potential threats. I’m not sure if the signs work for potential threats. I do know that seeing one of those signs in someone’s yard just makes me a little sad. I wonder why they are so frightened.

Window decals proclaiming the presence home security alarms have become the norm. I think that most of the houses I’ve seen them on don’t have home security alarms. My in-laws have a leftover sticker in the window of their new home. They don’t have any interest in home security alarms, but they also haven’t peeled off the sticker.

Good home security alarms come with a command station. Some even have voice instruction which can be helpful in emergency situations. A good many alarms that come from home alarm systems are false alarms. Rarely do real emergencies happen in which home alarm systems are helpful in any meaningful way.

Complete home security alarms put sensors on windows and doors. The window sensors can be installed to either alarm for breakage or for opening. The door sensors usually just detect the state of open or closed. Window sensors have varying degrees of sensitivity and can be adjusted for its specific needs.

Motion detectors are a commonly chosen component of home security alarms. Some families opt to install them in the living area to detect movement during the night. This seems a little bit paranoid to me. I think it is a little frightening to think that there are families using these devices at night just to feel safe.

Sirens for home security alarms can be very loud. There are ways to install a system that it triggers an interior warning siren prior to a loud exterior siren. This is a really great feature because if a false alarm sounds, it can be silenced prior to waking up the neighbor. Chances are your neighbor has no interest whatsoever in home security alarms going off erroneously.

Making The Best Home Security Choices

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The very best form of home security is making the right choices about who to bring into your house. If you allow many people come through your home that you don’t really know, you expose yourself to danger. It is a good idea to limit the number of your children’s friends you allow through your house.

Home security alarms don’t usually end up protecting women and children from what they sometimes fear most. Domestic violence can not be deterred with a home security alarm. Women and children are far more likely to be injured by what has been locked in the house with them.

Installing a home security system can be a complete waste of your time, energy and money. Most people do not respond to alarm sirens anymore. They will get irritated at the very sound of them and not go to investigate the cause. There have been so many false alarms since the advent of car alarms that people are not conditioned to ignore all sirens.

I don’t feel guilty about not investigating an alarm. It is not my job to locate the cause of a siren. Home security is usually done so poorly that false alarms are the norm. Some people think that they can install their own home security system. They usually do the worst job and have the most false alarms.

I don’t think that most people with a home security alarm even use it properly. To truly secure a home you would need to spend considerably more than what is typical. Office buildings use commercial alarm companies that are priced out of a regular homeowner’s security budget. There are a lot of discount packages offered by home security companies and it is important to keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

Another great idea for home security is locking the door. It sounds very simple, but there are a lot of people that still live without locking their doors. I rarely lock my door whether or not I’m home. If I plan to be gone for more than two days, I may lock my door. I am also not worried about being burglarized and don’t feel the need for home security.

Home security devices also include timers to time events like lights going on and off while the homeowner is not home. These are very effective when used in conjunction with a friend or neighbor retrieving your newspapers and mail. It doesn’t matter if your lights make it look like you are home, but there is a pile of newspapers on your front steps indicating that you aren’t.

Secure Your Home With Window Alarms

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Have you ever been the victim of a break-in? Thousands of homes across America are broken into all the time. Much of this has to do with bad neighborhoods and deviant criminals prowling the streets for a quick buck, but home security is also an issue. How well do you secure your home? I must admit, I have reached the point where I actually have installed window alarms on every window in my home. In addition to a dead bolt on each door and surveillance cameras, I feel fairly on top of things. While many individuals may see this as paranoid, I would like to remind you again that thousands of homes are burgularized every day. Now, the question is: when will it be your home that’s targeted for a random break-in?

Home security is no laughing matter. Today criminals are much bolder. These people are everywhere, and as much as many people would hate to admit it, they could be scoping out your home right now. One of the nifty, yet cheap devices I stumbled upon to help secure my home are window alarms. These babies didn’t set me back and do a great job guarding each window.

First of all, you should always keep your windows locked up tight if you’re not at home or if you’re going to sleep. Don’t be one of those fools who leave the downstairs window wide open in the summer time because it’s hot. You’d best invest in an air conditioner or fan because this is not safe. I know a woman who was attacked due to her window being left open at night.

The police say the predator saw it as an easy target; don’t be like her. Keep those windows locked up and install some simple window alarms. They’re no hassle to put in, and make a siren-like noise if the window is opened. This will alert you even if you’re sleeping and most likely cause a potential aggressor to flee the scene. Criminals hate attention.

If you are in search of ways to secure your home, window alarms are certainly a good start. Granted, not everyone has a bundle of cash to drop on security systems. You can jump online and sift through a plethora of security devices that won’t break the bank. In addition to inexpensive window alarms, you can also find some security cameras for a nice low price. This way you can monitor what’s going on outside of your home at all times.

Home Security Monitoring

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Home Security Monitoring is arguably an even more important aspect of a home security system than the sensors and what most people think of as the alarm system itself. Without proper and reliable monitoring, a home security system can be as useless as having no security system at all.

Alarm systems, the part of a home security system that alerts someone when a sensor has been triggered, can be either local or remote, or a combination of both. Local alarms are typically very loud sounds either indoor, outdoor or both. The intention of a local alarm is to scare off burglars before they penetrate your home.

Local alarm sirens have become somewhat less effective as urban citizens have become desensitized to the sound of alarms. In rural areas local alarms may be ignored by burglars altogether, as there is little chance that anyone else will hear it and call the police. For these reasons, most home security systems involve remote monitoring in addition to any type of local alarm. In my opinion it is still worth installing a local alarm, as in many cases it will indeed scare of intruders before something worse happens.

Be sure you know what kind of remote alarm service is included in any type of home security monitoring service that you’re considering. There are several different types and levels of responsiveness available from different home security monitoring companies.

Do your homework. Some of the most affordable home security monitoring services may only run automatic checks of your system a couple of times per day. These are hardly better than having only a local alarm siren. There are many helpful consumer oriented websites where you can compare the products and services of various home security companies. Once you compare and contrast the service of several different monitoring companies you’ll be better equipped to determine which level of monitoring your home requires.
